I was shooting a senior in an abandoned house and my grand daughter was with me. I struggle with unique and different poses, tired of the same old thing. She was wanting to be a "model" for me so I took the opportunity to play with angles and light
Photo Critique SummaryComposition & Perspective 6 Focus 10 Use of camera, exposure & speed 8 Color & Lighting 6 General impression 6 Overall Rating 7.2 GuruShots ProComposition & Perspective:6 good job of taking a different angle to shoot this photo. I also like the location. The slight cracks in the window and the peeling paint on the walls. I think you may have been able to use these elements a bit more. Focus:10 focus is sharp. Use of camera, exposure & speed:8 exposure seems fine. Color & Lighting:6 the black and white is all right but I'd like to see the photo in color. I also think there is a bit more you could have done with the light. General impression:6 Hey Leanne, Overall I think you've made a pretty good image here and your grand daughter did a good job of modeling for you. I like that you shot from high and to the right instead of straight on. Your choice of location is great. I like that the shadows and the corner of the window frame draw my eye into the subject. How to improve your photo1. In your own comments you said that you tried to play with angles and light. This exploration is great! But take it farther. The light is balanced in this photo and by the looks of it there was a lot of natural light coming in from the window. I would have taken advantage of that light and the contrasting darkness on the other side of your grand daughter. Really let the shadows on the wall come out. 2. I love environmental portraits with lots of space around the subject and an abandoned house would be great for that! So take a few steps back and bring some more of the environment into the frame. 3. Lastly, I think the black and white works here but since you balanced the light pretty evenly I think color might have been better. Especially if the model's shirt is colorful while the rest of the image lacks color. If you do want to use Black and white on this photo then I would have made better use of the contrasting light to really make the black and white pop!
