Again, first impressions matter! I actually feel the bond between the man and the Donkey. Very powerful in it's own right.
Composition & Perspective:

I don't think it could be any better, both subjects are well placed and represented in the photo, not too little and not too much of either which conveys the meaning of the photo perfectly.
Focus:

Looks sharp as a tack and the slightly out of focus background is just enough so as not to distract from the foreground, Nice use of aperture.

I don't know if you used Program Mode on your Canon or not but the exposure seems right on. And post processing?

BEAUTIFUL...both the mans face and the animals are luminous which draws the eye immediately to them and that's where the emotion is.

As I said above it works fine at this aperture.
